Dr Vijay Raj is a child, adolescent and general psychiatrist with a special interest in the assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD across all ages as well the use of novel and innovative methods involving brain stimulation treatments such as rTMS in managing a variety of mental health and other conditions. He graduated with his medical degree from the University of Tasmania and has honed his craft in Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory before settling in Victoria. He believes strongly in employing an empathic and objective approach that ultimately aims to deliver the safest and most appropriate care for patients in need. For him, this means that quality psychiatric care must begin first from having a proper understanding of the patient's illnesses and the contributing biological, psychological and other environmental influences as part of a measured and rigorous assessment approach. He then carefully initiates treatment trials as indicated and monitors patients until they are stable before discharging them to their treating GPs. He has enjoyed connecting with regional and rural Victorians, living in a regional area himself. and intimately understands the challenges that both patients and GPs face in getting quality health care, and hopes to do his small part to improve this for all.
